Dear FJA Members:

Greetings from a busy week in Tallahassee where we have five days remaining in the 2012 Legislative Session.

In addition to this week's video update, I wanted to bring to your attention an op-ed published this weekend for the Tallahassee Democrat. In this piece, we dispute many of the “claims” made by the FMA and their friends in the insurance industry regarding medical malpractice. Their attempt to close the courthouse doors for victims of medical malpractice continues to be a top priority of the FJA, and we expect a vibrant fight on the Senate floor this week.

The truth is that we still face challenges this week. From fighting the doctors and insurance companies on medical malpractice, taking on State Farm on auto insurance, and scrapping with the pharmaceutical industry over the Daubert standard of evidence, our legislative adversaries have an army of high-paid lobbyists working on their behalf. Fortunately, we have you – our volunteer members – working the halls of the Capitol to make sure that the voice of the injured is heard and that the civil justice is preserved. In the end, it is your tireless dedication that will win the day in Tallahassee.

Thank you for your continued support of our issues and of the Florida Justice Association.
Find out how you can be a part of our cause by calling Lynn McCartney in the FJA Legislative Department at (850) 521-1030.
