Dear FJA Members:

Last week, the 2012 Legislative Session came to a close. The FJA realized some great victories. Lobbyists with the business, insurance and medical communities envisioned a 60-day session where they would achieve great success in limiting the rights of your clients.

In the areas of medical malpractice, insurance company bad faith, the Daubert standard of evidence, property insurance, and sovereign immunities, we defeated every harmful legislative proposal. The FJA’s team of staff, lobbyists and hard working members like you were able to push back, ensuring these bad provisions never became law.

The FJA did see one defeat in the area of PIP auto insurance where the contingency fee multiplier was eliminated. And while disappointed by this defeat, we successfully stopped all caps on hourly attorney’s fees as well as caps on total attorney’s fees in PIP cases.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of the Florida Justice Association. Due to your efforts, we were able to stop countless bills that would have impaired the civil justice system in Florida. Be proud of your role in our success!Sincerely,

Debra Henley
FJA Executive Director
